India Green Cardamom Production in 2015 - 2016 was around 22,000 Metric Tons, excluding 3,000 Metric Tons carry forward stocks from the last year crop of 2014 - 2015. Hence bringing the total availability of Cardamom from India up to 25,000 Metric Tons for year 2015 - 2016

There are three states as the major Producers of Cardamom in India: 1st - Kerala with 70% Production of Green Cardamom, 2nd - Karnataka with 20% Production of Green Cardamom and 3rd - Tamil Nadu with 10% Production of Green Cardamom. Idukki district in Kerala is the major Cardamom Producing area and places such as Udumbanchola taluka, Peermede taluka and Devikulam taluka are important centres in Idukki district. India consumes almost 90% of the domestic Production with almost 45% of the demand coming from the western part of the country followed by the northern India with 35%. As India's Production is capable of satisfying the domestic consumption demand, it does not import any Cardamom from outside countries. Average production of Cardamom in India is 22,000 Metric Tons.
